Ashby History

Welcome to the Ashby legacy, a cornerstone of American history that reflects resilience, service, and deep roots in the independence of the United States. The Ashby story stretches back to the Revolutionary War, where ancestors paved the way for generations of leadership and community strength. This rich heritage, woven with the fabric of our nations founding and the pioneering spirit of the frontier, inspires Micah's commitment to serve Arkansas, and this country, with the same dedication.

Dated 1776, Captain Stephen Ashby, is listed as an Officer belonging to the 12th Virginia Regiment in the Revolutionary war. He fought for the thirteen colonies to be independent from Great Britain and help create The United States as an Independent nation. Captain Stephen Ashby played a big role in Americas Independence.

This is a Land Warrant issued to Captain Stephen Ashby by order of George Washington for his part in fighting for Americas Independence. He was given 1000 acres of Land in what was then virginias western territory, today it is now parts of Kentucky/ohio.

This is Captain John Ashby, the great++++++++ Grandfather to Micah Ashby. John Ashby fought in the Revolutionary War and became popular through his bravery in battle. John Ashby also commanded the 2nd company of Rangers, a frontier military unit during the French and Indian War, where he was subordinate to George Washington.

These are letters written from George Washington to Captain John Ashby,

President George Washington and Captain John Ashby became best friends while they fought for Americas Independence together.

The National Archives and Records Administration as well as Micah Ashby's family, holds letters of interactions between George Washington and Captain John Ashby. George would praise John at times and at other times they would have quarrels, as friends do. One quarrel was about Johns wife allowing the sell of alcohol in the camps and George wasn't happy about this.

John would continue to visit President Washington after he was done fighting. They continued to be friends, even after the war.

Fort Ashby was erected in Virginia under orders from George Washington. A Fort and a town was dedicated to John Ashby's memory to honor him. Fort Ashby is a historic stockade Fort located in Fort Ashby, West Virginia, USA. A military installation constructed during the French and Indian War, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
